KARACHI: Setting-up new check posts remained a successful step as the newly established check posts of Darakshan Bolan, Rakhani and Surab seized smuggled goods worth Rs69.369 million in a week.
Seized smuggled goods including auto parts, automobile engines, tyres, mobile phones, cigarette, cloth, blanket, electronics, cosmetics, edible oil, power generators etc.
Former Chairman FBR Abdullah Yusuf had abolished these check posts in 2005 and it resulted in a mammoth increase in the smuggling. Afghan Transit cargo was pilfered in the country and goods were smuggled into the country from Afghanistan.
At that time PaCCS system was in place and it had a provision that transit cargo containers would not be scanned or examined by any authority and thousands of containers were cleared and it still is unclear what were these goods.
In the history of FBR, officers from other groups instead of Customs and IRS were made chairman and this practice has not been successful.
