KARACHI: Distancing from MQM policy and siding with the Sindh government, Sindh Governor Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan defended the decision by Sindh government to lay the issue of extension of stay of Pakistan Rangers in province as a “legal binding”.

The issue of extension in stay of Rangers and special powers to them is not an issue that could not be resolved, he said while inaugurating the Eduljee Dinshaw Road constructed at KPT House linking Pakistan Customs. The construction was necessitated by imminent security threats.

Peace has returned to Karachi due to commendable efforts of the security forces, Sindh Governor said expressing the resolve of the government.

The political leadership has decided to weed out terrorism from the country, he said adding that Sindh government fully supports the Karachi operation and would lend all facilities and meet all requirements of security agencies for the purpose including legal cover from the provincial assembly. Rangers would be getting powers under Article 47, he said.

A number of mega projects have been initiated in Karachi and many more are in the pipeline, he said hinting at more packages for the city.

A large number of diplomats, city elite, and politicians, high officials of Pakistan Customs, District Administration and KPT attended the impressive ceremony.

The road would ensure safety of the custom house which recently received threats besides checking theft which was common before.

Tariq Huda Collector Preventive informed that A Trust was formed which raised Rs65 million for the construction of the road.

Speakers said the road would also increase the beauty of the area but it would also provide security to the Customs House and surrounding areas.

Chief Collector Enforcement south Zahid Khoker, Director Afghan Transit Trade Javaid Gani,  collectors  Owais Aga  Jawwad, Majid Yousufani, Surayya But, Saeed Akram, Wasif Memon, Mujtaba Memon, Saif uddin Jonejo, Choudhri Javaid, Zulfiqar Malik and others were present on the occasion.
