KARACHI: Customs Intelligence Quetta has seized large quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs35 million in an operation at Mastong, Dasht in Balochistan. These goods are suspected to be coming from Afghanistan.

It may be mentioned here that a large quantum of imported goods that are transported to Afghanistan through the transit trade find their way back into Pakistan without payment of duty and taxes.

The Director I&I Quetta Irfan-ur-Rehman has expanded the ambit of their crackdown and far-flung and declared sensitive areas are being approached.

Deputy Director Inamullah Wazir had authentic information about the presence of smuggled goods and he rushed the spot along with the raiding team. When the suspected trailer was intercepted, a large number of smugglers with firearms appeared out of somewhere and cordoned the Customs team.

Customs then called FC, after which the mob disappeared and seized goods were taken into custody. Sources said the seized goods belonged to a notorious smuggler known as Bali.

FBR has declared Peshawar, Quetta and Gwadar sensitive in the pretext of smuggling. Well reputed and competent officers have been posted at these destinations with the directives to root out supply of smuggled goods.
