KARACHI: Directorate of I&I Peshawar in an operation has seized miscellaneous smuggled goods worth Rs28 million and arrested one person, as the authorities are committed to root out the menace of smuggling that has caused irreparable loss to the national economy.
On an authentic information, a trailer No. TLC-794 was intercepted by Directorate of I&I, Peshawar. The contained was staffed with 6400 Mobile phone sets, 375 Samsung / Sony brand LEDs, 200 cartons of Welding Rods, Tri Circle Pad Locks Sensodyne / Colgate tooth pastes, Gutkha, Graphic Paper and Lux Soap.
Non-existent of documents/formalities attesting legitimacy of goods proved, the goods were smuggled and non duty-paid. Therefore, seized goods amounts to RS20 million while trailer is worth Rs8.0 million, have been seized while driver of the vehicle was arrested. An FIR to this effect has been lodged.
Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Chairman FBR Nisar Muhammad Khan have taken a strict stance against smuggling. Field formations of Quetta and Peshawar in particular have been advised to eliminate transportation of smuggled goods into the markets across the country.
Most of the imported goods find their way in Pakistan through the borders of Peshawar and Quetta-Chaman. In order to strike hard on the movement of smuggled goods, Collector MCC Peshawar Qurban Ali Khan, ADC Aftab Haider and Director Customs Intelligence Peshawar Asghar Khan and Additional Director Zia Ullah shams, have advised their respective teams to bear no leniency in the ongoing campaign against smuggling.
Similarly, Collector Quetta Saeed Jadoon, Director I&I Quetta Irfan ur Rehman and Deputy Director Inam Wazir are strengthening their intelligence network to augment their crack-down against smuggling.
