KARACHI: The Air Freight Unit (AFU) of MCC Preventive has recovered Rs20.902 million, which was evaded claiming inadmissible benefit of concessionary SRO.

The case was detected by Appraising Officer Junaid Malik after which Additional Collector Tahir Qureshi and Deputy Collector Basit Hussain after perusal issued the demand notice to the company.

According to the details of the case, it was found that a medicine for reducing of cholesterol namely “LIPITOR” is being cleared by claiming benefit S.No.20(i) of Part-II of 5th schedule of the Customs Act, 1969 and erstwhile S.No. 20-C of Table-III of SRO 567(1)/2006 at zero percent customs duty.

The concessions were not admissible and the importer M/s Pfizer Pakistan Limited had short-paid a total of taxes and duty of Rs20.902 million.

Collector Preventive has appreciated the team and initiated the reward proceedings.
