KARACHI: Dr. Muhammad Irshad, Chief Commissioner Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) visited all Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Principal Office in Karachi and discussed the issues relating to pending refund claims of their members.

Amanullah Kassim, Sr. Vice Chairman APTMA in his welcome speech appreciated the efforts of Dr. Muhammad Irshad, Chief Commissioner, Inland Revenue, LTU to resolve the long pending sales tax refund claims of textile sector. He also highlighted some operational and policy matters which are creating hardship for genuine exporters/refund claimants.

The issues which were discussed during the visit were withholding of sales tax from exporters, refund claim deferred on account of non-verified chain invoices and pending sales tax, income tax and tax paid on services.

Chief Commissioner LTU informed APTMA members that refund of Rs3.0 billion had been sanctioned during last eight months and advised the exporters to provide supportive documents so that their claims may be sanctioned / disposed off accordingly.

He said that a new system had been evolved which was user friendly and would resolve most of the problems of genuine taxpayers. Since, this is new automated system and is in initial phase of implementation so there may be some technical problems. But in future it will be working in the best interest of the business community.

As regard to the issue of pending refund claims of the members APTMA, he informed that the Large Taxpayers Unit is determined to dispose of all pending claims. He also informed that the Show Cause Notices were issued for the benefit of the refund claimants with the intention to facilitate refund claimants to provide supportive documents for the sanctioning of sales tax refund claims.

He appointed Tariq Shaikh, Additional Commissioner LTU as Focal Person for resolution of issues of members of APTMA.
