KARACHI: The Karachi Port trust (KPT) has advised all the Customs officers/offices to obtain their KPT 2D Card on submission of valid documents at CPIO/KPT on priority basis as entry into port area without 2D card will not be allowed by 15 December 2014.
Karachi Port being vital sensitive installation is included in Key Points installations of Pakistan. The Foreign Flag Merchant / Naval Ships are also secured at KPT and protected under ISPS Code implemented since 2004. The foolproof security arrangement is the prime responsibility of Port-Security Force of KPT. To access the Karachi Port Trust bounded area either Civilians or Government Port users/officials, system has been stream lined since 200.
Considering deteriorated law and order situation in the country and threats of terrorist attacks, it is mandatory to restrict the entry in Port area without valid 2D Card.
As a serious security threat is said to be looming over the port city in the backdrop of the ongoing army operation Zarb-e-Azb, the Karachi port and its allied areas are soft targets for terrorists in the absence of tangible measures.
The KPT observed that despite references earlier send to Customs Preventive in this regard, no action had been taken as yet. Therefore, entry into port area without 2D card would not be allowed to anyone.
