FBR to update active taxpayers list every month

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to update the details of active taxpayers on its web portal on 15th day of every month.
Statutory regulatory order (SRO) 699(I)/2014 said that for financial year 2014-2015, active taxpayer list will be published on the FBR web portal on July 1, 2014.
The FBR said that if person who has filed a return as per mandatory requirement under Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 for the tax year then person’s name shall be included in active taxpayer list.
It said that the Board will publish active taxpayer list comprising persons who meet the criteria as laid down under sub-rule (4) and will be made available on the board’s web portal on March 1st, 2014 in each financial year.
“The active taxpayer list shall be valid for the period, beginning on the date of published and ending on last day of February, next following,” the FBR said.
“In case a joint account is held in a bank by more than one person, the joint account holders as an entity shall be deemed to have met the criteria as laid down under the law sub-rule (5), if any of the person in the joint account meets the criteria as laid down under the said sub-rule (5).”
The FBR informed that in case an account is held in a bank on the name of minor, the minor shall be deemed to have met the criteria as laid down under sub-rule (5), if the parent, guardian or any person who has made deposits in the minor’s account meet the criteria as laid down under said sub-rule (5).
The FBR may issue taxpayer cards to a person who meets the criteria as per law by March 1st in every year.
It is to inform that the person who files return after December 31st, taxpayer card shall be issued within sixty days of the filing of return.
Taxpayer card will be valid for a year, from the date of issue and ending on last day of February of the following year. Similarly, taxpayers cards issued in respect of tax year 2013, shall be valid up to February 28th, of 2015.
The FBR may authorize National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), for the purpose of printing and issuing taxpayers cards.
