KARACHI: The MCC Appraisement-East has foiled a bid to import used cooking oil through mis-declaration in the name of soap and gum stock; the import of used cooking oil in Pakistan as per the import policy order.
According to the details, the importer electronically filed goods declaration and determined his liability of payment of applicable duty & taxes and sought clearance. No commercial invoice and packing list was found inside the container.
Sample drawn after following proper procedure the samples in duplicate for chemical testing as regards confirmation of the description were sent to the custom house laboratory.
In view of the test results/parameters, the sample is found to be inedible mixture of fats and oils and qualifies it to be used cooking oil.
Scrutiny of the Goods Declaration revealed that the importer has declared the goods imported as “soap & gum stock (soap stock) classifiable under PCT headings 1522.0090 whereas the actual description as confirmed by the Custom Laboratory is inedible mixture of fats and oils and qualifies it to be used cooking oil classifiable under PCT under 1518.0000.
The aforesaid facts proved that the importer has deliberately and intentionally violated the provisions of law by importing an item which is otherwise not importable and misdeclared.
It may be mentioned here that import of used cooking oil through mis-declaration increases ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
