SHC suspends recovery notices issued against Telecom Pakistan Ltd

KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan ordered issuance of pre-admission notices to the respondents as well as Deputy Attorney General (DAG) in a petition filed by Telecom Pakistan Limited fpr Nov 5.

The bench while suspending recovery notices also directed the respondents to filed comments by next date of hearing with advance copy to the petitioner.

Earlier a counsel from Franklin Law Associates appearing before the bench submitted that petitioner challenged an Order in Original against which they have preferred an appeal before the Special Custom Appellate Tribunal which heard and reserved judgment in the matter. The respondents however issued recovery notices on Oct 10.

The counsel for petitioner submitted that prima facie they have a good case as Classification Committee of Pakistan Custom has ruled in the favour of the petitioner in respect of the consignment in dispute. The bench after hearing initial arguments suspended the operation of impugned recovery notices.
