KARACHI: MCC Port Qasim has booked M/s Mohsin Plastic Workds, one person Samiullah and Examination officer Malik Sadabahar for attempting to clear banned products through mis-declaration.
M/s Mohsin Plastic Works imported a consignment from China declared to be Ball Clay GF-12 (24,180kg). The GD was assigned for examination under red category. The assessment group made assessment on the basis of importer’s declaration and examination report. On credible information, the CIU re-examined the consignment, which found 400 bags of mono sodium glutamate (ajinomoto salt) weighing 10,000kg.
Since the ajinomoto salt is banned to be imported, the consignment was seized. From the facts and circumstances foregoing, it is established that the M/s Mohsin Plastic Works with the active collaboration of their associates namely Samiullah, Malik Sadabahar and others attempted to clear banned goods through concealing the description of goods and mis-declaration. FIR has been lodged and investigations are underway.
It may be mentioned here that Samiullah is also the prime suspect in the case of betel nut import in the garb of waste paper scrap. Additional Collector Yaseen Murtaza had been quite efficient against betel nut smuggling and made several cases. Additional Collector Yaseen Murtaza stopped three consignments of solar fans, in which Rs1.0 million revenue was being evaded. These consignments were imported by the accused Samiullah However, the case was not adjudicated on the directives of Collector Port Qasim.
