KARACHI: Customs Intelligence Karachi has lodged an FIR with Sindh Police against Waseem Tanoli and several others for attempting to set Customs staff on fire and burning down the smuggled mobile phones and laptops at a premise in Clifton.

Customs Intelligence & Investigation Karachi had received information that smuggled mobile phones, I-pads and laptops at Sasi Arcade Block-7, Clifton. A team comprising Superintendent Ilyas Ahmed and Intelligence Officers Mohammad Sadiq, Anwar Fareed Faroqui, Ghulam Fareed, Aaqil Alam, Khayam Hussaini and others reached the spot.

The staff present at the premises could not provide legal import documents or evidence of legal possession of the goods in the office. Meanwhile, one Waseem Tanoli along with two other persons arrived and urged the Customs officials to stop making a report and offered to make a deal. Moreover, the office bearers of market association along with two dozen men reached the stop and start manhandling the officials while Waseem Tanoli and his accomplices sprayed kerosene oil in the office and also sprayed kerosene oil on the Customs officials, the culprits set the goods in the premises on fire in a bid to destroy the evidence.

The Customs officials managed to escape from the scene, while the inventory report and the smuggled goods at the premises were left there due to the law and order situation.

Tanoli is known for getting the jobs done, which are otherwise not doable. He has a reputation of a hooligan and threatens officials as well as journalists. Tanoli also harassed and threatened the correspondent of Customnews.pk, which has alredy been reported to the concerned authorities.
