KARACHI: Anti-smuggling organization (ASO) of Customs Intelligence & Investigation-Hyderabad has seized Indian origin smuggled medicine worth Rs3.225 million.

Information was received through Director Customs Intelligence Hyderabad that non duty paid/smuggled Indian origin medicine would be transported from Lahore to Hyderabad. Accordingly, a team headed by Principal Appraiser Irshad Shah was constituted to foil such attempt. Subsequently, the suspected vehicle was spotted coining from upcountry towards Hyderabad which was signaled to stop.

On checking, as per information the smuggled non duty paid Indian origin medicines were found loaded on the said trailer. On query, the driver namely Muhammad Shoaib failed to produce legal documents for the said goods on the spot. Therefore, the said goods unloaded from the said vehicle and brought to the office of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation Customs (ASO) Regional office Hyderabad for detail examination.

Principal Appraiser Irshad Shah pursued the case and after detailed investigations, it is established that the said smuggled goods were brought into the country through un-authorized routes without payment of duty & taxes.

However, despite exemplary performance Principal Appraiser Irshad Shah has been transferred to Lahore.
