KARACHI: Office of the Deputy Collector Customs Sukkur has seized 6,000 KGs of betel nut along with a Mazda truck moving from Baluchistan to interior Sindh.
Information was received through Collector Hyderabad Khalid Hussain Jamali that betel-nut will be transported through a Mazda truck. Deputy Collector Preventive Sukkur Kaleemullah Wagan constituted a team comprising Inspectors Aziz Ahmed Katper, Anwar Hussain Shah and others to foil the attempt.
During the course, the suspected vehicle was spotted and signaled to stop by the ASO staff, however the driver sped away and abandoned the vehicle at a distance. The vehicle was found to be laden with smuggled betel nut covered under the layer of cucumbers.
The seized betel nut is valued at Rs4.8 million, the vehicle is valued at Rs3.0 million while the cucumber is valued at Rs81,000. The goods along with the vehicle have been seized and investigations are underway.
