KARACHI: Anti-smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi has lodged an FIR against several persons for smuggling of betel nuts, as 5,080 KG of betel nut valuing Rs1.27 million had been seized.

According to details, Abdullah Shah Ghazi Rangers contacted the ASO and intimated that during checking they had impounded three Suzuki pick-ups loaded with smuggled betel nuts. Ranger official asked to take over the custody of betel nuts and occupants for further legal process.

Suzuki Pick-ups along with loaded betel nuts and accused persons namely Abdul Nafe, Najeeb Ullah, Saqib Khan, Ibrahim and Humayun were taken into custody. They were asked to produce documents to substantiate the lawful possession and transportation of the loaded betel nuts, but they all failed to produce the same.

Meanwhile, two persons in a private Toyota Corolla Car chased the Customs team and stopped the Government and other vehicles near the State Warehouse and threatened the Customs team and also tried to snatch the loaded vehicles and accused persons as handed over by Ranger staff forcibly. However, Customs team overpowered these culprits and apprehended the both assaulters. The two accused persons/attackers were later on identified as Habib-ur-Rehman Kakar and Abdul Pukar.

The accused have been arrested and an FIR has been lodged while efforts are in progress to arrest the financiers, abettors and other accused persons and their associates.
