Notice issued in bail plea by accused in opium smuggling case

KARACHI: Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi of High Court of Sindh on Friday issued notices in bail pleas by three accused in a case of smuggling opium.

Zameer Ahmed, Khalid Hussain and Nawab Ali sought bail. According to details, Pakistan Rangers at their check post during routine checking of a passenger bus found 8 kilogram opium wrapped in a plastic bag. The accused, bus drivers and third, a conductor were arrested and later handed over to the Mochko police. They later handed over the accused to Pakistan Custom authorities which registered a FIR. The owner of the bus/coach submitted receipt showing that the packet was booked by two persons namely Islam and Shafi Muhammad. He also provided the mobile phone number of the persons submitting that his employees were innocent.

The accused/applicants are in jail since 12-10-2017, Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen Advocate, counsel for accused submitted seeking bail.

The bench after hearing initial arguments put the respondents on notice for June 22.
