KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) ordered petitioner, owner of a Toyota Surf vehicle to join adjudication proceedings and seek provisional release of vehicle against payment of duty, taxes as assessed by the adjudicating authority.

The bench also directed the respondents to consider the application of the petitioner for release of the vehicle and pass a proper order strictly in accordance with law in view of judgments passed by SHC. The bench also directed that this exercise be completed within four weeks.

According to details, the vehicle was detained earlier also in 2006 by DIT and was released subsequently after verification to petitioner/applicant Khan Tariq.

The vehicle was detained again this time by ASO and its chasis was found tampered. The department alleges that petitioner is using two vehicles under same registration number and that vehicle seized by ASO was not imported legally.
