SHC disposes of petitions pertaining to Regulatory Duty

KARACHI: An appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Mrs Ashraf Jahan on Thursday disposed of two identical petitions pertaining to the Regulatory Duty which has been declared illegal by another bench of SHC wide judgment dated Feb 07.

A counsel from Franklin Law Associates appearing for the petitioner Jawwad Brothers and Hansika importers of food items and toiletries respectively drew the attention of the court to its judgment in petitions challenging RD.

The counsel sought interim relief as granted in the previous petitions which allowed release of the goods on deposition of differential amount of duty and taxes with the Nazir of the SHC.
The bench in its judgment gave government 30 days times to get an order from SCP or they will have to refund the amount of differential.

The same bench also disposed of a petition filed by New Allied Electronics which imported a consignment of android mobile phones.
