KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtarand Justice Omar Sial on Friday ordered Collector Customs, Hyderabad to immediately release a truck, allegedly involved in smuggling of items.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Momin Khan, owner of the truck who sought implementation of the orders of the customs appellate tribunal which ordered release of the vehicle on payment of redemption fine at a rate of 20 per cent.

Today when the petition came up for hearing, Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate appearing for the petitioner said that impounded truck is sole source of income of the petitioner and delay in release of the same adding to the miseries of the petitioner.

An Additional Collector Customs Imtiaz appearing for the respondent collectorate submitted a letter of “Attachment of Property”. On perusal the bench found the letter pertain to property at Quetta. This irked the bench and invited its ire. The bench disapproving the action by the Hyderabad Collectorate ordered immediate release of the truck, subject matter of the petition.
