KARACHI: A brick of pure gold weighing one kilogram brought into the country by a passenger/Over Seas Pakistan was ordered to be released by a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial here on Tuesday.

The bench earlier heard Ms Dil Khurram Saheen advocate representing the passenger/accused/petitioner Aurangzeb Zafar. According to details, petitioner on arrival at Karachi airport declared possessing the gold brick. However Pakistan Customs instead of imposing duty, taxes, detained him while confiscating the gold.

The special customs appellate tribunal hearing an appeal ordered re-export of the gold under section 142 of the Customs Act 1969 but as the order was not complied petitioner filed a petitioner which was heard today. Hyder Shaikh advocate representing the department opposed the plea.

The bench however after hearing the sides as an interim relief ordered release of gold on condition that he would deposit amount equivalent to value of gold before the Nazir of SHC. The bench also restrained the Customs Intelligence from causing any harassment to the petitioner.
