KARACHI: Pakistan Customs with the assistance of Rangers has foiled an attempt to smuggle contraband into the city of Karachi and arrested three persons in this regard.
Collector Preventive Dr. Iftikhar had information that foreign origin non-duty-paid goods and contrabands were being transported through passenger buses to Karachi and other cities.
Dr. Iftikhar assigned Additional Collector Aamir Theim, Deputy Collector Mohammad Faisal, SPS K.M Tabassum, IPS Abrar and SPO Aijaz Khoso of Mochko ASO and PO Noor Nabi to check the channel and eliminate movement of smuggled goods through the buses.
The paramilitary forces are assisting the Customs authorities in the crackdown against smuggling. Pakistan Customs and Rangers in a joint operation intercepted a bus coming from Quetta to Karachi.
On checking, authorities recovered approximately 280 KG of charas from the concealed cavities of the bus near Mochko check post.
Customs authorities as well as paramilitary forces have taken the task of eliminating the menace of smuggling from the country. It is an established fact that smuggling inflicts a colossal loss to the national economy as is deprives the government of its legitimate revenue and also deprives the local industry of a level playing field.
More importantly, the money made from this dirty business is known to be a primary source of funding terrorists and anti-social elements.
