KARACHI: The I&P branch of MCC Peshawar has booked an Afghan national for attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs10 million into the country.

Information was received from Collector Peshawar Gul Rahman that attempt would be made to smuggle gold from Afghanistan.

The Customs staff of Torkham, on reasonable belief of being in possession of contraband goods, intercepted a wheelchair laborer at pedestrian walk through by-passing Customs arrival hall pushing a patient on their way from Afghanistan.

The Afghan wheelchair laborer identified as Sher Agha s/o Ghalib was checked and two gold bars having a cumulative weight of 2.4 kg was recovered from his possession. The accused could not provide any documentary evidence to prove legal import of the gold into Pakistan. The gold was seized and the accused was arrested. Investigations are underway.
