KARACHI: Customs staff at Customs Station Torkham has foiled a bid to smuggle large quantity of fertilizer to Afghanistan.

Collector Peshawar Qurban Ali Khan has advised Additional Collector Fazle Samad and Deputy Collector Fazli Shakoor to keep strict vigilance on the movement of smuggled goods.

Superintendent Muhammad Naeem and Inspector Mehmood ul Hassan on reasonable belief of presence of contraband goods stopped a truck while crossing border to Afghanistan.

The truck was apparently loaded with rice. Cursory search of the truck revealed presence of fertilizer beneath the rice.

Thorough checking of the vehicle led to recovery of 58.8 MT of Australian origin fertilizer. The goods along with the vehicle has been seized and FIR is being lodged for further investigations.
