KARACHI: MCC Appraisement East has booked an employee of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for illegal removal of a pay order amounting to Rs2.043 million from Securities section of the collectorate and subsequent illegal deposit of the same against GD of some unauthorized person.

According to details of the case, M/s Progressive Engineers imported a consignment of Split Solar Air Conditioners and claimed benefit of SRO 575(I)/2006.

The Collectorate could not decide the matter of admissibility of SRO and referred the matter to the Board. The consignment was released provisionally against submission of Pay Order amounting to Rs2.043 million.

The provisional assessment was finalized against the importer, the said pay order was required to be encashed online to enable the importer to get adjustment of input sales tax paid at the import stage. However, the same was not done as the said pay order was found missing from the Securities Section.

The accused Muhammad Yousuf S/o Babu, Officer Grade-III, National  Bank of Pakistan, Karachi was asked to clarify his position from time to time, but he intentionally avoided to attend preliminary investigation.

It may be mentioned here that MCC Appraisement East has already lodged three FIRs against several accused including two employees of NBP for illegally removing and misusing deposited pay orders amounting to Rs6.29 million.
