KARACHI: MCC Appraisement West has lodged an FIR against M/s Ayan Enterprises for attempting to clear auto parts in the garb of machinery/fork lifter parts in order to evade government revenue.

M/s Ayan Enterprises imported a consignment declared to contain BGF brand hydraulic cylinders for automotive vehicles and brake/wheel/clutch cylinders for fork lifters from Taiwan. These goods enjoy certain exemptions and concessions.

The consignment was selected for physical examination on the basis of declarations and electronically uploaded import documents . On physical examination, the printed part numbers pasted on packing of goods were tallied with manufacturer’s catalogue of BGF of Taiwan. The GD was accordingly processed.

In the meantime, while goods were still lying at port, information was received from Chief Collector Abdul Rasheed Shaikh that the importer is attempting to clear the goods/parts meant for auto vehicles in garb of machinery/fork lifter parts to evade the leviable duty and taxes.

Deputy Collector Rana Aftab along with Principal Appraiser Abdul Qayyum and Appraising Officers Shahid Ibrahim Dasti and Mohammad Ahmed re-examined the consignment and the part numbers were found as per the catalogue of BGF website.

However, a preliminary probe through market enquiry from the local shop keepers and dealers of auto parts was initiated which confirmed the goods were actually auto vehicles parts.

An FIR has been lodged and investigations are underway.
