KARACHI: Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui of High Court of Sindh allowed provisional release of baking material of betty crocker company while hearing a suit filed by importer S M Chawla and Company.
The bench earlier heard Talal Tariq advocate who submitted that Custom official instead of assessing the imported goods against US $ 0.45 cents are assessing the same at US $ 1.60 arbitrarily and on the basis of guideline in violation of section 25 of the Customs Act 1969.
The bench after hearing the counsel for plaintiff ordered issuance of notices for March 16. The bench also noted that shelf life of the disputed consignment is also limited hence it allowed release of the consignment on payment of differential amount of custom duty and other taxed between declared and assessed values.
