KARACHI: A Deputy Director, Pakistan Customs Directorate of Intelligence and Investigations was summoned to appear in person by an appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed.

The bench was hearing a constitution petition filed by Haji Saeed Ahmed whose vehicle was detained by Pakistan Customs  since 2005 and later auctioned without notice to the petitioner/owner of the vehicle.

Recently the same bench hearing an identical matter passed strict orders leading to payment of compensation to the petitioner.

Today Di Khurram Shaheen Advocate appearing for the petitioner told the court that petitioner prays implementation of the order passed by the tribunal. To a query by the court she said that customs department has filed Special Customs Reference Application (SCRA). The bench then pointed out the judgment in the SCRA.

Kashif Nazeer Advocate appearing for the department said custom went into an appeal before the apex court in the matter. He also stated that department sought legal opinion and lawyer advised them to not to release the vehicle.

Kashif Nazeer gauging the trouble informed that the vehicle was auctioned in April 2016.

The bench after this statement by the counsel for respondent custom officials ordered that relevant Deputy Director shall attend the court on the next date of hearing.

The bench also warned the counsel for respondents to ensure that officer in attendance shall come with all relevant documents. The bench with above directives adjourned further proceedings till Feb 27.
