KARACHI: The Customs Classification Committee has ruled that lead acid batteries imported by M/s Tesla Industries Pvt Limited are rightly classifiable under PCT 8507.2090.

MCC Islamabad forwarded a reference to the Classification Committee for determination of correct classification of 2V-600 AH lead acid batteries for solar use imported by M/s Tesla Industries PVT Ltd. The importer contested that the goods are cells and not batteries and accordingly should be classified under appropriate PCT other than 8507.2090.

MCC Islamabad is of the view goods being lead acid batteries are correctly classifiable under PCT 8509.2000.

The matter was taken up by the Classification Committee and meetings were conducted. The classification committee formed by Collector Ashad Jawad is headed by Additional Collector Haris Ansari and comprising Deputy Collectors Rizwan Mehmood and Dr. Shahzad, Principal Appraiser Bahadur Khan and Muzaffar Rizvi, Appraising Officers Safdar Zaman, Saeed Soomro and Masroor Kazi.

After detailed deliberations, the Classification Committee ruled that lead acid batteries imported by M/s Tesla Industries Pvt Ltd are correctly classifiable under PCT 8507.2090.
