For the first time in Pakistan civilian government and military are on the same page and seem committed to steer country out of trouble waters. Pakistan led by Nawaz Sharif with complete assistance and guidance of General Raheel Sharif is set to get out of the clutches of IMF vis-à-vis USA and turn out to be an independent and sovereign nation in spirit.

Off course, this situation is not comforting for many local as well as international quarters and these elements are trying to sabotage the development of the millenuim.

There is little doubt that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) guarantees the prosperity of Pakistan and its people. This mega project would bring the country on route of development and success. The civilian government as well as military leadership are well aware of the importance of CPEC and are also aware of the conspiracies being hatched to derail this project.

General Raheel Sharif recently visited China and held meeting with their leadership. Soon after his return, Chief of Army Staff had a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, both reiterating their commitment towards China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Addressing the parliamentary party of the ruling PML-N here at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Nawaz Sharif quoted the Chinese President Xi Jinping as saying that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a gift from them to Pakistan.

Nawaz said the CPEC would change the destiny of the people. He said considerable improvement in the country’s economy had come about since 2013.

“Pakistan has become strong enough to stand on its own feet; if the same continues, we will be able to say goodbye to the IMF soon,” Nawaz said. He said Pakistan had completed the IMF programme and expressed the confidence that the country will not need any new loan from the financial institution.

Just after that USA and India teamed-up against Pakistan, which proves that both these nations are not comfortable with the progress Pakistan is making. US and India are actually making ground to pressurize Pakistan.

However, Pakistan’s destiny is set and Prime Minister Sharif and General Raheel Sharif would leave no stone unturned in making this project a success. In order to get out of the clutches of IMF, government has taken several measures to increase revenues and eliminate corruption. It is also known that coordination has also developed between civil bureaucracy and sensitive agencies to curb corrupt practices. Smuggling is already curtailed to a maximum extent, money laundering while revaluation of property would bring black economy in check.

The sensitive agencies are said to be monitoring everything including politicians, judiciary, bureaucracy, journalists and financial institutions, their final transactions are being monitored to notice any incidence of terrorist funding.

It seems that synergy has been formed at the top levels of government institutions and this would need to be continue. Government having keen eye on the circumstances is likely to take important as well as sensitive decisions going forward which may include continuation of tenures of several persons heading important institutions such as Chairman FBR Nisar Mohammad Khan, Tariq Bajwa and off course General Raheel Sharif.

Chinese leadership is also committed to this project and have expressed their confidence in Pakistan’s civil and military leadership time and again. This would not be surprising if Chinese government representatives such diplomats convene meeting with political parties opposing CPEC to convince them with the benefits of the project.
