KARACHI: Lawyers across the province observed May 12 as “Black Day” in protest over blood bath witnessed by Karachi in 2007.

The city witnessed pitched battled between armed group belonging to political parties on a day when supporters and opponents of dislodged Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Choudhry held competing rallies.

Termed as bloodiest day of the city, 43 men were killed while hundred others were injured in the day long mayhem. Iftikhar Muhmmad Choudhry was forced to go back from Jinnah International airport while lawyer managed a programme at Sindh High Court Bar Association.

In order to remember the martyrs of the day, men in black observes May 12 as protest day. Black flag were hoisted atop KBA, SHBCA and Sindh Bar Council Building while lawyers wore black arm bands. Dozens of cases were adjourned today and court wore a deserted look.

Protest meeting were held separately by KBA, SBC and SHCBA where fateha was offered for the departed souls while lawyers demanded that perpetrators of May 12 mayhem be traced and brought to book.
