KARACHI: SHC divisional bench of comprising Chief Justice  Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Thursday allowed provisional release of a consignment of perfumes on payment of customs duty and differential amount.

SHC Ghulamullah advocate appearing for the petitioner company Ashraf Traders submitted that the Goods Declaration was filed at a rate of 4.2 US $ per Kilogram while Customs Appraisement has assessed the value at rupees 7.2 US $ per kilogram. The petitioner is ready to pay the differential amount with the Nazir of the High Court while customs duty with Pakistan Customs, the counsel submitted praying to the court to order provisional release.

The bench expressed surprise over the valuation in terms of Kilogram and said Perfume is always weighed in ml and how many bottles would be made out of a kilogram is everybody’s guess. The bench was visibly taken aback at abysmally low rate of valuation however granting the request allowed the provisional release of the consignment. Pakistan Customs was represented by Kashif Nazeer advocate.
