KARACHI: Chaudhry Muhammad Javed Collector of Customs Adjudication has ordered confiscation of a consignment imported by M/s Almas Khalis Limited an Afghanistan based importer for misdeclaration.

However, the importer is given an option to redeem the goods on payment of a fine equal to 35 percent of the value of offending goods. However, the Court has ordered to club the amount of fine with duty and taxes with the financial guarantee as this was transit trade consignment.

The tax and duty against the importer stood at around Rs 3.39 million. A penalty of Rs 100,000 was also imposed on the importer. A penalty of Rs50,000 was also imposed on shipping and clearing agent M/s Sealinks Shipping Forwarding Karachi.

The importer filed GD for transit trade to Afghanistan declaring eye glasses however physical examination found auto parts, electrical appliances, cosmetics and other goods with the glasses.

The Customs Adjudication found the case of mis-declaration established and ordered the confiscation of goods.
