KARACHI: Directorate of Post Clearance Audit has served an Audit Observation on M/s Al-Hafeez Electronics Karachi for payment of Rs20.6 million as was short-paid.

Scrutiny of import data found that M/s Al-Hafeez Electronics Traders, Karachi, imported declared to be “Led Lights, Led Lights With Fitting And Fixtures Made Of Aluminum, Glass, Stainless Steel, Plastic, Brass And Led Bulb Etc.”, which are without converter / driver of the corresponding quantity of LED Lights, and declared PCT heading 9405.1090 through MCC Appraisement (West) and claimed the benefits of Fifth Schedule (Customs Duty) Part I, Sr. No. 24, Sixth Schedule (Sales Tax)-15.2-25/06/2015 and Income Tax @ 0% CL77 PT-IV 2nd Schedule ITO-10, the exemptions are only available to SMD, LEDs with or without ballast with fittings and fixtures for promotion of the renewable energy technologies

There is undeniable proof that the imported lights and fixtures are not for solar use with the renewable energy sources like Solar Energy or Wind Energy. Therefore, these imports are not covered under the claimed notifications. Therefore, importer M/s Al-Hafeez Electronics Traders, Karachi  is required to pay total short levy of Rs20.6 million.
