KARACHI: The staff of Pakistan Customs posted at International Arrival, Jinnah International Airport Karachi recovered and seized 2.99 kilograms of assorted gold jewelry from the possession of two passengers coming from Dubai.

Assistant Collector Wasif Malik had the information that an attempt would be made to smuggle gold jewelry into the country.

According to details available with Customnews.pk, the Customs staff on Wednesday the 10th June, 2015 intercepted two Pakistani passengers namely Zeshan Aslam and Ms Aisha Aslam at the International Arrival Hall of Jinnah International Airport, Karachi when they arrived from Dubai.

Both the passengers were diverted to scanning machine along with their baggage and then towards examination counter for physical examination of the baggage. At counter, they were afforded an opportunity of fair declaration of the contents of their baggage and on person, to which they responded in negative.

The baggage examination led to recovery of six LG Mobile phones kept in lady bag. Since there existed a strong suspicion, therefore, personal search of the lady passenger was conducted which led to the recovery of 2.99 Kilograms of assorted gold jewelry which was duly concealed on her body and under garments.

The goods so recovered were seized after completion of all legal formalities. The value has been assessed to Rs.10.09 million.

Both the accused passengers were arrested and a case registered against them in the Court of Special Judge (Customs & Taxation) Karachi for the violation of Section 2(s), 16 & 178 of the Customs Act, 1969. Further investigation is in progress.
