KARACHI: MCC Hyderabad has initiated crackdown against the smuggling of Irani diesel and petrol pumps selling the same.
Chairman FBR Tariq Bajwa and Member Customs Nisar Mohammad Khan on November 25, 2014 had directed Collectors Preventive, Quetta, Giddani and Hyderabad to start operation against smuggling of Irani diesel and petrol pumps selling the smuggled commodity.
Collector MCC Hyderabad Dr. Wasif Memon formed two committees of Anti-smuggling organization headed by Assistant Collector Aminullah Tareen ASO Hyderabad and Assistant Collector Ms. Zamzam Aman ASO Sukkur.
District Administration was apprised of the situation through several letters, and DCOs were asked to confirm whether these petrol pumps were registered and acquired NOCs, but no reply was received. Even the police refused to extend any assistance. Most surprisingly, Rangers excused helping ASO.
The teams identified several suspected petrol pumps and they were asked to submit the required documents to prove the legitimacy of their operations. Those who could not furnish the documents were demolished. Survey is being conducted to identify more illegal pumps
The teams, on their own, initiated the crackdown against illegal petrol pumps and ASO Sukkur demolished some five petrol pumps in Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar while one was demolished by ASO Sukkur.
It may be mentioned here that MCC Preventive has already conducted the similar crackdown where over 70 illegal petrol pumps were destroyed.
