KARACHI: Sindh Police has imported 2600 guns (12-bore Repeaters) from Turkey in order to better equip the police against organized crime.

The imported guns are values at Rs100 million, on which Customs received duty/tax of Rs25 million.

The Customs examined the imported consignments within three days and verified the serial numbers, model and barrels of the weapon. Proper security measures were taken by the Customs given the sensitive nature of the consignment.

IG Sindh had requested Tariq Huda, collector Preventive to process the consignment as early as possible. Hence, the consignments was cleared and handed over to the police on Wednesday night.

It may be mentioned here that law and order situation in the cosmopolitan has been questionable rather alarming since long and the law enforcement agencies including police and rangers have not been able to overcome the crime as well as the threat of terrorism in the city.

It may be mentioned here that good quality guns and rifles are made in the northern part of Pakistan, but due to lack of support and patronage by the government, the sector has not flourished.

If supported, guns, rifles and sporting arms produced in Pakistan can earn a reasonable international market and earn precious foreign exchange. Moreover, the requirement of law enforcement agencies can also met indigenously.
