KARACHI: Karachi Tax Bar has demanded the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to allow filing of income tax returns as its members were unable to filer returns due to slow functioning of the web portal, frequent disappearance of data fed on return/wealth forms at the e-web portal and sudden logout from the portal during the process of feeding data on the return forms.
The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) in a letter sent on Thursday to FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa, said that several meetings between Member (IR Policy) and Member (IR Operations) were held with the delegation of KTBA during their visits to field offices in Karachi recently; wherein the issues being faced by our members in electronic filing of tax returns were raised and discussed in detail.
During the meeting they were very kind enough to suggest to us to meet representative of PRAL to sort out both the issues. In this regard, Mujahid Naeem of PRAL visited Karachi twice on 05 September 2013 and 05 November 2013 and had detail sessions with the office bearers and general members where the issues being faced by our members were highlighted to him.
One of the major issues being faced by our members to date are the very slow functioning of the web portal, frequent disappearance of data fed on return/wealth forms at the e-web portal and sudden log out from the portal during the process of feeding data on the return forms.
The association time and again indicated that the malfunctioning of the return software at the e-web portal is seriously hampering the process of filing of return/wealth statement and is creating severe inconvenience to members who are virtually working day and night to achieve the task of filing the returns within the extended deadline.
So far the number of tax returns received by the three Regional Tax Offices in total aggregate to approximately 35,000 only which in itself speaks about the problem. The tax practitioners, therefore, left with no choice but to demand the Federal Board of Revenue to immediately allow filing of manually filled tax returns for the tax year 2013 as otherwise the filing of returns appears to be impossible.
