KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement-East has lodged first information report (FIR) against one Mohammad Azfar Javed for evading huge amount of revenue involved in import and clearance of consignments of miscellaneous items through mis-declaration of description and quantity and gross under valuation.
According to details of the case available with Customnews.pk, M/s H.A Karim International, Rawalpindi owned by Mohammad Azfar Javed imported certain consignments and filed the Goods Declaration (GDs) and majority of such consignments were got cleared through customs computerized system without physical examination and customs clearance of goods which was managed at Karachi by one Mian Tahir on behalf of accused importer.
On receipt of credible information by the Collector MCC Appraisement (East), R&D section subjected the consignments to examination.
The physical examination resulted in unearthing the scam of gross mis-declaration, quantity and weight besides under valuation of imported items in violation of relevant valuation rulings which had not been applied.
The recoverable amount of duty & taxes has been worked out to be Rs9.67 million which may be recovered from the importer.
It is established that the importer knowingly/willfully deliberately attempted to conceal the actual description of goods.
The consignments have been seized under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 in presence of two independent musheers in 03 GDs under the cover of Musheer Nama prepared on the spot.
Investigation has been initiated to arrest the culprits/beneficiaries involved in the crime.
