KARACHI: The Directorate General of Customs Valuation has decided determine the customs value of un-coated wood free offset paper for printing, writing and photocopying of Japan separately in the next valuation ruling.

According to details, certain paper importers had submitted a review application that the Japan origin has been clubbed with ‘others’ in the impugned valuation ruling which cost them $150 more than similar goods of Indonesia and China origin.

The submitted that they raised this issue in the past by requesting that Japan origin goods may not be categorized under ‘other’ but it was not resolved.

The Directorate of Customs Valuation has accepted the plea of the applicant to determine customs value of goods of Japan origin in the next Ruling and the same shall be implemented in the revised Valuation Ruling to be issued for prospective application.

The Directorate ruled that the applicant importers should also be associated alongwith other stakeholders while determining customs value of impugned items of all relevant origins including Japan in the next valuation ruling which may be issued at the earliest.
