KARACHI: Customs authorities have initiated recovery of Rs36.35 million against 37 taxpayers through freezing of bank accounts and attaching other moveable and immovable properties.
All the taxpayers are importers and defaulted in paying their liabilities. The authorities had already been sent notices to defaulters informing them about the recovery.
“In order to make serious efforts to recover the long outstanding government revenue, Warrants of Attachment have been issued in all the cases and ‘Attachment Officers’ has been appointed afresh and cases have been allocated to appraising officers,†said a official order.
The appraising officers assigned for the job have been directed to assist the attachment officer in identifying the bank accounts and other movable / immovable properties of the defaulters so that further action of recovery of the arrears is initiated against them, the order further stated.
Customs sources said that the appraising officers would identify the CNIC numbers and current business, residential addresses of the defaulters with the help of concerned clearing agents.
In addition to that, the source added, the regional commissioners of Inland Services would be approached for providing information about the bank’s name and account numbers of the defaulters so the outstanding amount should be recovered by freezing those bank accounts.
